This Tuesday, targeted recruitment fairs kicked off for Chiquita Panamá, a company making a strong comeback and promising to provide jobs for thousands of Bocas del Toro residents. In the first day, over 600 people came with hopes of securing a position. But this is just the beginning: it is estimated that at least 3,000 workers will be hired in this stage, and 2,000 more by the end of the year. Minister of Labor, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, was present on the farms, accompanying applicants and highlighting that this move marks a 'new beginning' for the province. 'The important thing is that this historic company decided to stay, return to the country, and hire a lot of people. There is hope and work for our people,' said the minister. The government's plan is for the extraction of the famous 'green gold,' as bananas are called, to begin in early 2026, which is the engine of life and sustenance for many families. Muñoz also reminded that Bocas does not live only on bananas: cocoa and other sectors are growing and generating dignified employment in the fields. Additionally, she announced that inter-institutional fairs are coming soon to address other community needs.
